Why Is Russia Holding Back Military Support for Iran? Putin Reveals Shocking Reason!
Although Russia has strongly denounced the recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran, it has not offered its close ally any military support. Russia may increase its support, according to experts, but President Vladimir Putin has given an explanation for Moscow’s current neutrality.
Putin outlined a major justification for Russia’s cautious stance at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He pointed out that there are almost 2 million Russian-speaking or Russian-origin individuals in Israel. Putin referred to Israel as “almost a Russian-speaking country” and underlined that Russia has always considered this demographic aspect when making foreign policy choices.
Claims that Russia deserts its allies in times of crisis were denied by Putin. He claimed that Russia has cordial relations with Iran and other Arab and Islamic nations. Russia has a long history of good relations with nations with a majority of Muslims as a member observer of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). In order to emphasise the cultural and religious connections Russia has with these countries, he also mentioned that about 15% of Russians are Muslims.
Russia has labeled the US missile strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as reckless and illegal. At an emergency UN Security Council meeting, Russia’s ambassador Vasily Nebenzya accused the US of violating the UN Charter and international law by attacking sites under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) monitoring without provocation.

Putin’s strategy appears to balance Russia’s alliance with Iran against the significant Russian-speaking population in Israel.
