‘We’re Not the Mediators Anymore’: US State Department Confirms Pullout of Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks
The United States is stepping away from its role as a mediator in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine peace talks, citing a lack of progress between the two nations. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce made the announcement on Thursday, signaling a shift in Washington’s diplomatic strategy amid a conflict that has raged for over three years.
“We are not going to fly around the world at the drop of a hat to mediate meetings,” Bruce stated, reflecting what many believe is President Donald Trump’s frustration with the stalemate between Moscow and Kyiv.

‘It’s Up to Them Now’: Washington Hands Over the Baton
Bruce emphasized that it’s time for Russia and Ukraine to take the reins and formulate a concrete path toward peace.
“It is now between the two parties… they need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end.”
This sentiment was echoed by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who reiterated that the responsibility now lies squarely with the warring nations.
“It’s not going to end anytime soon,” Vance warned in an appearance on Fox News’ Special Report.
U.S. Still Committed to Ukraine, Just Not as a Mediator
Despite pulling back from diplomatic facilitation, the U.S. isn’t turning its back on Ukraine entirely. Bruce reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting peace, just not by acting as the go-between.
This comes just a day after the U.S. and Ukraine signed a landmark mineral investment deal, setting up a joint fund. The U.S. will be able to count military equipment, technology, and training already provided to Ukrainian forces as part of its contribution to the fund.
