United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday issued a strong condemnation of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 civilians dead and many injured. “I understand the raw feeling following the Pahalgam attack… I once again strongly condemn the attack and extend my condolences to the families of the victims,” he said.
The deadly assault was carried out by terrorists believed to have been trained in and operating from Pakistan. Most of the victims were tourists visiting the Baisaran region of southern Kashmir.

Guterres stressed the importance of justice, urging that the perpetrators be held accountable through legal and legitimate channels.
Highlighting the worsening relationship between India and Pakistan, Guterres said, “It pains me to see India-Pakistan relations reaching a boiling point,” acknowledging the valuable contributions of both nations to global peacekeeping.
Calling for restraint, Guterres urged both nations to pull back from the edge of conflict. “Make no mistake: A military solution is no solution,” he said, offering the UN’s support for any initiative that fosters dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation.
