UN Chief Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Urges Calm Between India and Pakistan
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday issued a strong condemnation of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 civilians dead and many injured. “I understand the raw feeling following the Pahalgam attack… I once again strongly condemn the attack and extend my condolences to the families of the victims,” he said.
Terrorists Trained in Pakistan Blamed for the Assault
The deadly assault was carried out by terrorists believed to have been trained in and operating from Pakistan. Most of the victims were tourists visiting the Baisaran region of southern Kashmir.

Call for Justice Through Lawful Means
Guterres stressed the importance of justice, urging that the perpetrators be held accountable through legal and legitimate channels.
UN Chief Alarmed by Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
Highlighting the worsening relationship between India and Pakistan, Guterres said, “It pains me to see India-Pakistan relations reaching a boiling point,” acknowledging the valuable contributions of both nations to global peacekeeping.
United Nations Offers Support for Peace and De-Escalation
Calling for restraint, Guterres urged both nations to pull back from the edge of conflict. “Make no mistake: A military solution is no solution,” he said, offering the UN’s support for any initiative that fosters dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation.
