U.S. President Donald Trump made the unexpected late-night announcement that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “complete and comprehensive ceasefire.” Trump stated in a post on his platform Truth Social that, if both sides follow the agreed-upon plan, the 12-day conflict would formally come to an end within the next day.

Trump praised both nations for their “courage, intelligence, and endurance”, adding that the conflict could have lasted for years and devastated the Middle East — “but that didn’t happen, and it never will!”
According to Reuters, a senior Iranian official confirmed that Iran has accepted the ceasefire proposal after talks mediated by the U.S. and Qatar. However, neither Israel nor Iran has issued any official confirmation of the terms so far.
Just hours before Trump’s announcement, tensions escalated dramatically. Iran reportedly fired missiles at U.S. military bases in Iraq and Qatar, in response to earlier American airstrikes on its nuclear facilities.

While Trump said 13 of 14 missiles were intercepted, Iran’s Mehr News Agency claimed at least three missiles struck the Al-Udeid base. A New York Times report added that Iran had notified Qatari authorities ahead of the attack to avoid civilian casualties.
While Trump’s announcement has created a celebratory mood in the U.S. and among allies, the ceasefire remains unofficial until publicly confirmed by Tehran and Tel Aviv. Diplomatic sources in Washington and Doha suggest a formal declaration could come if the next 24 hours remain peaceful.
If upheld, this ceasefire could bring a temporary halt to one of the most dangerous escalations in recent Middle Eastern history. Experts say it may reshape military and diplomatic dynamics across the region.
