What should have been a moment of hope turned into horror in Gaza on Sunday, as at least 21 Palestinians were killed and 175 others injured while attempting to collect humanitarian aid. The tragic incident unfolded near an aid distribution site run by an Israeli-backed organization, according to a hospital operated by the Red Cross.
The victims’ bodies were brought to the facility, and hospital officials confirmed the casualty figures. While it’s still unclear who fired the shots, witnesses claim that Israeli forces opened fire on the crowd gathered near the aid trucks.
Eyewitnesses Say Israeli Troops Fired on Desperate Civilians
An Associated Press journalist on-site confirmed that dozens of injured individuals were receiving emergency treatment. Witnesses described a chaotic scene where panic erupted among the crowd, leading to gunfire. While the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the organization behind the aid delivery, denied its private security fired any shots, the Israeli military admitted to firing warning shots to disperse the crowd.
Local health officials said the incident followed earlier reports of six deaths and over 50 injuries from similar aid-related chaos in recent days.
Starvation Crisis Deepens in War-Torn Gaza
Since October 2023, the war in Gaza has devastated the region’s infrastructure and displaced over 2 million people. With food supplies dwindling and medical care collapsing, the majority of the population now depends on international aid to survive.
However, repeated attacks on aid seekers and even hospitals have raised international alarm. The recent bloodshed underscores how life-saving humanitarian efforts are now turning into deadly flashpoints amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
