Israel has made serious allegations against its neighboring Islamic country, Egypt, claiming that Egypt is constructing military structures near its border that could be used for aggressive operations. Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter, stated that this move by Egypt violates the peace treaty between the two nations, signed in 1979. He further stated that Israel will soon raise the issue regarding Egypt’s military activities on the international stage.
Israel’s Concerns Over Egypt’s Military Build-Up
Leiter said, “Egypt is building military bases in the Sinai region, and these can only be used for aggressive operations and weapons, which is a clear violation of the peace treaty.” He added that this issue had been ignored for a long time, but it can no longer be overlooked. Israel intends to bring this matter to a serious discussion soon.
This statement could escalate tensions between Israel and Egypt, as the two countries signed a landmark peace agreement in 1979, which was seen as a significant step toward peace in the Middle East. Now, Egypt’s military expansion raises questions about the validity of that agreement.

Leiter’s Statement at the U.S. Conference
This statement was made by Israel’s Ambassador Yechiel Leiter during a conference with leaders of major U.S. Jewish organizations at the end of January. The meeting took place just before the planned meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump. Leiter emphasized that Israel is ready to prioritize this issue and raise it openly in the near future.
Reports in the Media and Egypt’s Response
Recently, some online videos surfaced showing Egyptian military vehicles deployed in northern Sinai, near the Gaza border. Although the authenticity of these videos has been questioned, their widespread circulation has sparked significant discussion in Arab media.
In response, Egyptian TV host Amar Adeeb addressed these concerns during a program on MBC Egypt. He dismissed the allegations from Israel, stating, “No one wants to enter a war, but if we are forced to fight, we are fully prepared.” This statement indicates Egypt’s military readiness, while still expressing a desire to avoid war.
What Lies Ahead?
The big question now is whether these allegations from Israel will further strain the relationship between Egypt and Israel, possibly threatening the peace treaty between them. Will this issue attract the attention of other nations and international organizations? For now, it remains to be seen how Egypt responds to Israel’s accusations and what direction the relationship between the two countries will take.
