Iran Says No Damage to Fordow After U.S. Attack — Saudi Arabia Agrees

The long-simmering conflict between Iran and Israel has now dramatically escalated, drawing the United States into the fray. U.S. military forces launched a high-precision attack on Iran’s most vital underground nuclear facilities, Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz, at around 2:30 AM local time.

The goal of these strikes, according to U.S. defence officials, was to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons program, especially the fortified Fordow site, which is frequently referred to as the centre of Iran’s atomic ambitions.

What Was Targeted?

U.S. Deployed Its “Nuclear Bunker Buster”

According to reports, the US used its stealth B-2 Spirit bomber, which is the only plane that can carry the 13,600-kg GBU-57A/B “bunker buster” bomb. This bomb, which can pierce up to 200 feet of concrete and reinforced earth, is frequently referred to as America’s nuclear deterrent short of actual nukes.

This weapon was created especially to destroy military targets that are deeply buried, such as Fordow, which is thought to be nearly impossible to reach with conventional weapons due to its location beneath a mountain range.

No Radiation Detected, Say Iran and Saudi Arabia

Concerns about radioactive fallout or leaks were common throughout the world after the attack. Saudi Arabia and Iran’s National Nuclear Safety Centre, however, both attested that there were no indications of radiation leaks in the impacted areas.

Radiation detectors in and around the nuclear sites are still in “normal condition,” according to Iranian state media. It’s interesting to note that locals near Fordow reported not even hearing any loud explosions, and everything seems to be under control.

Iran Claims: “We Were Prepared”

Mehdi Mohammadi, a top advisor to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf, revealed that Iran had already anticipated a possible strike on Fordow and had evacuated the site well in advance.

This strategic foresight, if true, could explain the lack of radiation and casualties despite the scale of the U.S. offensive.

Why Fordow Was the Prime Target

Nicknamed Iran’s “Mount Doom,” Fordow has long been seen as Tehran’s nuclear vault. Built nearly 100 meters underground and surrounded by mountains, the site was deliberately chosen for its natural protection from aerial attacks.

Its destruction—or even partial disablement—would be a significant setback to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Could This Spark a Wider War?

While the immediate damage appears to be under control, this strike marks a turning point. The United States’ entry into this conflict opens the door to a potential broader Middle East war, possibly involving multiple state and non-state actors.

Tensions are now higher than ever, and the next moves by Iran—and global powers—will be closely watched.
