Explosive Showdown at the Border: Taliban Warns Pakistan “No More Posts!

Once again, the longstanding border dispute between Pakistan and the Taliban has ignited into open conflict. A fierce skirmish broke out near the Durand Line, specifically in the Bahramcha region of Afghanistan’s Helmand province, adjacent to Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The confrontation adds to the growing friction between the two neighbors.

Two-Hour Gunfight on the Border

According to local sources, the clash erupted when Pakistani forces began constructing new border posts, a move strongly opposed by the Taliban. In response, both sides exchanged gunfire using small arms, and the firefight reportedly lasted for nearly two hours.

Following the incident, Pakistan halted construction of the new posts, while the Taliban warned it would not allow any new military outposts near the disputed Durand Line.

Old Dispute, New Flashpoint

The Durand Line has been a bone of contention between Pakistan and Afghanistan for decades. While Pakistan considers it its official international boundary, successive Afghan governments — including the Taliban — have refused to recognize it.

Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, Pakistan has accelerated the fencing of this border, triggering several violent incidents between the two sides. Neither party appears willing to back down.

Fractured Ties Between Taliban and Pakistan

Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban were once considered close, especially during the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in August 2021. Pakistan openly celebrated the Taliban’s return and was believed to have supported them during their campaign.

However, that honeymoon period is long over. Multiple issues have since strained ties — including forced repatriation of Afghan refugees, Pakistan’s ongoing conflict with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and cross-border military operations carried out by Pakistan on Afghan soil.

Although neither side has issued an official statement about the latest clash, the incident has made it clear: relations between Pakistan and the Taliban are increasingly strained, and the Durand Line remains a dangerous flashpoint.
