European Countries Scramble for Security as Trump Cuts Ties, Arm Citizens for Battle

Following Donald Trump’s recent statement about cutting financial support for European countries and breaking ties with Ukraine, European nations have been left shaken. For years, the United States has been a pillar of defense for Europe, with American fighter jets, military forces, and equipment always on standby to ensure their security. 1. Poland: Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, recently announced that all men in Poland will receive military training to prepare for war. Poland plans to increase its military size from 200,000 to 500,000 troops. Poland will raise its defense budget by 5% and purchase advanced weaponry, including 250 M1A2 Abrams tanks, 32 F-35 fighter jets, 96 Apache helicopters, Javelin missiles, and artillery rocket systems.
2. European Union: The 27 countries of the European Union have agreed to an additional €800 billion defense budget. Of this, €150 billion will be allocated to purchasing new weapons and ammunition.
3. Hungary: Hungary has increased its defense budget dramatically and launched a campaign called “Zrínyi 2026.” The goal of this initiative is to modernize and strengthen the Hungarian military by acquiring artillery shells, ammunition, and advanced weaponry. Hungary is purchasing Leopard 2A7 tanks and PzH 2000 howitzers from Germany, NASAMS air defense systems from the US, and Saab Gripen JAS 39 fighter jets from Sweden.
4. Germany: Germany is set to invest hundreds of billions of euros in defense. Its defense budget could increase to €100 billion, a massive leap. Chancellor Frederick Merz has stated that they plan to make it easier for the defense sector to receive loans from banks and to increase the production of weapons. This decision also comes after leaked documents suggested that Germany is preparing for potential conflict.
5. France: French President Emmanuel Macron is planning to raise the defense budget to 3-3.5% of GDP, up from the current 2%. France is already increasing its military spending by €3 billion annually until 2030, under a new initiative. The funds will be used to purchase new weapons and military equipment, enhance cyber security, and develop AI-based military technologies.
