Panic swept across Lahore on Thursday morning after three powerful explosions were reported on Walton Road, leaving four Pakistan Army personnel injured. The blasts triggered chaos among residents who ran out of their homes seeking safety.
Local media also reported the sound of gunfire echoing through parts of Lahore just hours after the morning explosions, deepening the sense of fear and uncertainty among citizens.
Adding to the unrest, an explosion was heard in Karachi’s Sharafi Goth area of Malir, according to early reports. Details about casualties or damage are yet to be confirmed.
Visuals aired by local outlets showed frantic scenes across Lahore. Residents poured onto the streets, visibly shaken, as smoke filled the skies following the explosions. Two loud blasts were also reported near Askari 5, with eyewitnesses noting smoke rising from the Naval College.
Another explosion was reported in Lahore’s Burki locality earlier in the day, increasing the anxiety in a city already on edge. Reports continue to emerge as security agencies assess the situation.
Amid the rising tension, air routes over Lahore and Sialkot were temporarily suspended for commercial flights. Both airports will remain closed until 12 noon on Thursday, according to aviation authorities.
The current instability follows India’s targeted military strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Four key terror hubs, including the Jaish-e-Mohammed HQ in Bahawalpur, were struck in Pakistan, while five more targets were eliminated in PoK.
In response to India’s successful military action, Pakistan has initiated a massive disinformation campaign, flooding social media and news channels with old and unrelated attack footage, falsely claiming civilian casualties in India.
India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) quickly launched a fact-check initiative, debunking one false claim after another. The campaign exposed Pakistan’s attempts to divert attention from the destruction of its terror assets.
In a joint press conference on Wednesday, India’s armed forces and government officials emphasized that the retaliatory strikes were strictly confined to terror camps, with no military or civilian locations targeted. The nature of the operation was described as “non-escalatory” but firm.
Despite the restraint shown, New Delhi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, cautioning against any further misadventures that could escalate the situation. India reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national security without provoking unnecessary conflict.
