Hajj 2025: The holy pilgrimage of Hajj, beginning June 4, 2025, is all set to witness a technological revolution. For the first time ever, Saudi Arabia is integrating cutting-edge tech — from AI-powered robots to 5G networks and smart surveillance systems — to ensure pilgrims can perform their rituals safely and efficiently, even in the scorching desert heat.
The Saudi government has taken several advanced steps to modernize Hajj operations, making the sacred journey smoother for millions of Muslims arriving from across the globe.
The General Presidency of the Grand Mosques in Mecca and Medina has announced the deployment of several smart systems, including Manarah-2, an advanced AI robot capable of conversing in multiple languages like Urdu, English, and Arabic. The robot not only guides pilgrims within the mosque premises but also answers religious questions based on Islamic teachings and Hadith.
Grand Mosques are now equipped with:
Additionally, AI-powered crowd monitoring systems using ground sensors and gate readers have been introduced to track foot traffic and maintain order.
Saudi authorities will deploy a fleet of AI-enabled drones to track real-time movements of pilgrims. These drones can identify potential crowd surges and alert emergency response teams, helping prevent stampedes and ensure the safety of pilgrims at all times.
Strategically placed interactive smart screens will display live updates, prayer times, directions, and emergency instructions in various languages. This initiative aims to help pilgrims from different backgrounds navigate the spiritual journey with ease.
According to Saudi Hajj Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, over 1 million pilgrims have already arrived in the Kingdom for this year’s Hajj. Last year, the number stood at 1.8 million. Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a religious obligation for all able-bodied and financially capable Muslims to perform at least once in their lifetime.
