FC Barcelona Celebrates 125th Anniversary with Marxa Culer Hike and More

June 16, 2025 – FC Barcelona continues to mark its 125th anniversary, a celebration that started
on November 29, 2024, the day the club was founded in 1899 by Joan Gamper. The most recent
event in this anniversary year, the Marxa Culer hike to Montserrat on June 14, 2025, featured
president Joan Laporta alongside supporters walking the initial section of the legendary route,
honoring the club’s strong roots in Catalonia and its worldwide fan base.

The Marxa Culer trek, a 50-kilometer walk from Barcelona to the Montserrat Monastery,
attracted hundreds of culers to celebrate the club’s 125 years. Laporta, joined by fans, headed
the procession, which commemorated FC Barcelona’s cultural and religious heritage with
Catalonia. The procession, showcased on the club’s website, included blaugrana banners and
singing of “Cant del Barça,” with participants reminiscing about the club’s history. This walkout
built on previous efforts, including a video production highlighting the international scope of
supporters’ clubs and a photo competition among penya members, with the central theme
being “We Want the Ball.”

The anniversary festivities commenced with a grand gala on 29 November 2024 at Barcelona’s
landmark Gran Teatre del Liceu. Some 2,000 visitors, among them club legends, athletes, and
dignitaries, turned out for the occasion, which was transmitted live on Barça One and 3Cat.
David Carabén, Commissioner of the 125th Anniversary, kicked it off with a tearful manifesto,
then spoke Laporta, who focussed on Barça’s multi-sports identity and adherence to Catalan
culture. A new mascot, CAT, designed by the Grangel Brothers, made its debut, taking center
stage with a selfie with Laporta, Gavi, and Lamine Yamal. The gala also introduced the new
anniversary hymn, “L’Escut al Pit,” which polled 63% of fan votes and was premiered during the
Barça vs. UD Las Palmas match the following day

To celebrate the milestone, FC Barcelona introduced a special merchandise collection in
November 2024, including limited-series scarves, shirts, and tote bags, alongside a book
documenting the club’s history. Topps also brought to market the 2024-25 FC Barcelona 125th
Anniversary collection in February 2025, with autographs and memorabilia marking the club’s
history. HMD, a worldwide partner, hosted a “Goals 4 Phones” promotion, giving away 125
phones awarded to goals scored in some of the home matches, further connecting fans around
the globe

From Gamper’s dream to world giant with more than 300 million followers, FC Barcelona’s
125th anniversary proves its ever-lasting blaugrana spirit. The festivities, throughout games,
galas, and fan activations, pay tribute to the history of the club yet also look forward, as the
