New Hotel Check-In Rule: No Entry for Unmarried Couples at OYO!

In a move aimed at reshaping its image and addressing community concerns, OYO, a leading travel and hotel booking platform, has introduced a new check-in policy for its partner hotels, starting with the city of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Under the updated guidelines, unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check in. Guests, including those with online reservations, will need to present valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in.

This policy marks a significant shift for OYO, which has implemented the changes in response to feedback from civil society groups and residents, particularly in Meerut. The company has already directed its partner hotels in the city to enforce the new rule immediately. Depending on how the policy is received, it may later be extended to other cities.

OYO’s Region Head’s Statement

The initiative follows repeated requests from local communities and residents in Meerut and beyond, urging OYO to address concerns about hotel stays by unmarried couples. Pawas Sharma, OYO’s Region Head for North India, emphasized that the move is part of the company’s broader effort to ensure its properties are seen as safe, family-friendly spaces. “This step is a part of our commitment to creating a trustworthy and responsible brand that caters to families, students, business travelers, religious pilgrims, and solo travelers alike,” he said.

In addition to the new policy, OYO has been rolling out several other initiatives to enhance safety and hospitality standards. These include organizing joint seminars with police and hotel partners on safe hospitality practices, blacklisting hotels involved in unethical activities, and taking action against unauthorized establishments misusing the OYO brand.

By implementing these changes, OYO aims to align its services with the evolving expectations of its guests and establish itself as a reliable and responsible player in the hospitality industry.
