Analysis of Repeal of Farm Laws: Government’s Strategy and Outcome

The decision to repeal the farm laws is the most debated topic of the decade. People are standing on both sides of a coin when it comes to making an opinion about this historic decision of the government. As long as it matters to the opposition, this one decision made them shut their mouth, and it stopped the agitation among the farmers. However, the political agenda was not fulfilled with the decision, and it risked a lot of things for the upcoming election in the five states of the country.

At that time, it was a huge risk taken by the government as it transmitted the morally wrong impression of the Indian government all over the world. It showed the weakness of the Modi government. A lot of similar questions were raised in the name of CAA and abrogation of Article 370, like the role of government in rolling back every policy if the opposition makes lacs of people stand against it.

If we try to see this as a strategy, we could point out the different positive effects of this decision made by the central government of India. It showed how this government was only thinking about the farmers of India. Also, it highlighted the perspective that the Modi government repealed the law to earn the confidence of the farmers again by this act of understanding their concerns and creating an understanding between the farmers and the government itself. It also showed the Prime Minister of India is still democratic and thinks about people more than anything else.

However, this strategy didn’t work in the state of Farmers, and BJP lost the election in Punjab, whereas, in the other four states, the party did get the assurance and won the election with a high margin.
